Down through the years,
I've read from the pages of history,
and from the writings of great men.
But in all of this time,
just one thing has stayed with me.
A little passage I read
from the greatest love story
that's ever been told.
And it says, for God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten son.
And a few days ago I was thinking
on this passage of scripture
And I was inspired to
write this song
The Father gave his Son
He gave his only begotten Son,
thank God
And the Son loved the
dying world so much
That the Son gave his only life
And left on record the greater love
that this have no man, one day way back,
back on Calvary, you see
I don't have time to tell you the
whole story today
because they told me it wouldn't make this record too long,
but I'd like to let you know
that they lay 39 lashes on his back,
a crown of 72 thorns on his head,
they led him from judgment hall
to judgment hall but
But he stood before his counselors
and his judges,
and he never said a word.
He never said a word.
He loved us just that much.
nev er said a word.
Thank God. He never, never said a word.
I believe that. He never said a word.
And that's not all,
but they carried him out to Calvary,
crucified him, laid him in the grave,
But they tell me on the third day
morning he rose
And after far too long days
down here on earth
He summered down from Gloria Cloud
And went on back to heaven
But he said just like you see me going
I'm coming back again for you one day
And I ask him when he come back
to swing His chariot down
That's what I want him to do
See I've never had
a chariot ride before
Swing low, swing low, swing low
I told him in the meantime I'd hold,
I felt like that's the least I
could do for him.
And sometimes I think about it
and I moan like this.
See, devil don't know
what I'm moaning for
And then sometimes when I'm alone,
and the spirit begins to move,
you might see me do this
My love,
I'd like to do it one more time
Come on Jesus,
on Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Whoo! Whoo!
Whoo!
