down the left field line
and I'd hit it to the fence
a couple times.
There I stood with two men out,
Brian Baker on the mound
staring me down.
Well he hung me a curb and I hit it so far
I swear it would have gone
out of Fenway Park
It sailed right over the con
cession stand
Through the windshield of Mr.
Winningham's new minivan
I spent the next two
months cutting grass
Trying to pay for that busted glass
The grand total, including tax,
was 97 .45
But being known as the
sumptuous swat,
the candidate, the famous shot
That landed in the parking lot
was priceless
Well, I called her and told her to
wear something nice
She asked and I said, honey,
it's a surprise
When I picked her up,
I was certain she knew
What I was about to do,
but she didn't have a clue
Bet I'd rented the restaurant
out for the night
Requested Sinatra and candlelight
I covered her eyes till we got
through the door
There were rose petals
scattered on the floor
And champagne poured
It was a princess cup with
a black thumb band
In a vel vet box in my right hand
Spent a lot more than I planned
Ten thousand dollars and
forty -five cents more
Looking up at my future wife
Her mouth wide open and
tears in her eyes
And knowing that I did it right
was priceless
Now she's tellin' everyone she sees
She wants two or maybe three
And I've just laughed,
cause I've done the math
And I know what that means
There's diapers, daycare,
ballerina shoes
Bunk beds, braces, and boy scout dues
Cars and college and be
fore you're through
you spend 8 million dollars and 45 cents
But holding their hands and
watching them grow
Teaching them every little
thing you know
About love and life so
Priceless
So priceless
Everything is empty
