Now might be the time to tell
you what this is about.
This is the music, just the music,
from various parts
and stages
of the evolution of this story
that I've been carrying for 30
years called Lifehouse.
And this evening, what you're seeing
is an attempt not to be pretentious
or to intimidate in any way
but invited the wonderful
London Chamber Orchestra
because they helped so
much on on the play
that I did for the BBC
and they opened the
show today.
They're conducted by Liam
and I'll do proper
introductions later on
but they should be acknowledged
because their presence is
passive some of the time
so they have to look like they're
comfortable.
I hope they are comfortable.
This song is a very short song,
and in the story there are a
couple of love affairs.
There's a lost love affair
between the man who comes to London to
chase his daughter,
who's run away from home,
and there's that lost love affair
between him and his wife.
And there's a new love affair grow
ing between a young man
who's involved in the concert,
which is happening down in London,
and the daughter. And this song is actually
about the lost love of the older couple,
the mother and the father.
It's called Love Ain't For
Keeping.
Laying on my back in the
newly mowed grass
The rain is coming down,
but I know it's gonna pass
You bring me tears,
you say the babes are sleeping
Lay down beside me,
love ain't for keeping
Black ash from the foundry
hangs like a hood
But the air is perfumed
by the burning firewood
The seeds are bursting,
the spring is seeping
Lay down, darling, no vain for keeping
Lay
down, my darling,
no vain for keeping
Thank you.
