Here's a song about
a coal miner's wife.
Now she may be unsung,
but she's sure not unappreciated.
Her hours of labor are long,
but she faces her duty with spirit.
She dreads no task,
an d she meets her endless
chores with courage.
My mother was a miner's wife,
and I've seen these hard
-working women
do everything mentioned in this song,
and even more.
I wish I was capable of paying
a much more proper tribute
to these gallant ladies,
a tribute that the coal miner's wife certainly
deserves.
She's up every
mornin' for daybreak
When the coal oil lamp's light is dim
For she's got a man with
a job on his hands
And she's fixin' breakfast for him
But she never grumbles
She's fixin' breakfast for him
Now this is the life of
a coal miner's wife,
when her man is gone to the mine.
She washes his clothes,
she knits and she sews,
for they are two of a kind,
hard working people,
they are two of a kind.
She fills up her man's dinner bucket
Far around about the middle of day
He will sit down to eat
Though it's taters and meat
He'll keep up his strength that way
And she knows it
He'll keep up his strength that way.
Now this is the life of a
coal miner's wife
When her man is gone to the mine
She washes his clothes,
she knits, she sews
For they are two of a kind
Hard -working people,
they're two of a kind
She makes up the bed, does the dishes,
an d cleans house the
best that she can.
With an old homemade broom
she will scrub every room.
Then she fixes supper for her man,
cause he'll be hungry,
she'll have supper fixed for her man.
Now this is the life of
a coal miner's wife
when her man is gone to the mine.
She washes his clothes,
she knits an d she sews,
for they are two of a kind.
And the hardest -working people,
they're two of a kind.
On Sunday, they both go to meetin'
and thank him who watches above.
Though they may be tarred,
for their work is hard,
she's proud of the miner she loves,
and God knows it.
She's proud of the miners she loves.
Now this is the life of a
coal miner's wife
When her man is gone to the mine.
She washes his clothes,
she knits, she sews
For they are two of a kind
Hardest working people,
they're two of a kind.
