We gaan een voorstelling
maken.
We zitten die avond gewoon op kantoor.
In zo oud verlaten pand
waar ze nog geen
bestemming voor hebben.
Daar kun je dan een kantoortje huren,

biertje erbij, shaggie,

Aan het werk,

hem tenminste interesseert...
...en als degene die moet luisteren
dan ook een beetje geïnteresseerd is...
...in wat hij anderen te vertellen heeft.
En ik moet zeggen,
dat is bij ons absoluut niet het geval.
Jij nog, en waar is de aansteker?
Daar is de gehele conversatie
wel zo 'n beetje mee
samengevat.
Ineens zeg ik,
laten we gaan zwerven.
Dat is goed, dat is goed,
zegt hij.
Maar waarheen?
En we zitten weer muurvast.
Ik was hem tegengekomen op een avond
aan het einde van de zomer,
in een café waar ik af en toe op de
piano mag spelen.
En hij was binnengekomen met een pocketboekje
en een gitaar.
En dat valt je meteen op, zo 'n pocket.
We raakten in gesprek
en bleken een hoop gemeen te hebben.
Allebei midden twintig,
allebei geen cent te makken,
allebei wel leuke vriendinnen.
Thuis.
We spraken die avond tot diep in de nacht

over liefde, vriendschap en de dood.
