Verse 1
(D major) (A major) (D major) (A major) This song started off (D major) uh (G major) as I think (D major)
the (A major) most (G major) incom (A major) plete (G major) ideas
We probably have ever brought (A major)
today from (D major) the studio (A major)
Which is again, (D major) it,
(A major) people often asks (D major) how does it work
Do you (G major) do (D major) this stuff at home and take
it to Dav (A major) e (G major) Fridmann
And, and then he just sort of, (F major)
(G major) you know, puts some finishing touches (D major) on it
How (G major) they work (F major) is all
Verse 2
(G major) different
(D major) ways, some (A major) times we justbarely
Have an idea,
(E major) (A major) always a lot of enthusi (D major) asm and energy
But we barely have any idea 'bout what we (A major) wanna do,
and (G major) some (A major) times something
(G major) Mar (D major) velous happens (A major) and take it
to a whole new (G major) direction

Verse 3
And so, um, I think I (D major) had this riff uhm,
the "do do (A major) dinlo" part
Uhm, (D major) uhm and then you play the (A major) great
sort of funky (G major) understated beat
Uhm (A major) and then (G major) you, (C major) (G major) you, you came up with the idea,
um, (D major) Steven, (A major) about, (G major) (D major) yeah
It calling it The W.A.N.D (A major)
(D major) Yeah I had a (G major) picture (D major) on my desktop
Verse 4
(G major)
I dont know why (D major) just (G major) had a picture of, like,
a wand with
Some sparkly sprinkly thing (F major) s around,
and (D major) I thought that (A major) would be cool theme
For like a (D major) (A major) psychedelic, like a pro (C major) g rock band
or something (G major) (sure yeah)
Called the wand will (F major) be name of the band (C major)
(G major) (Oh I (A major) see, right)
And then (G major) it sort of like, (D major)
it just went from there (F major) (A major) over (D major) a song called the wand
It seemed a little more beautiful
(C major) (G major) (yeah, yeah)
Verse 5
And I think at first (C major) we (G major) had a line like
You got the power (C major) (F major) (D major)
waving you on (G major) (F major) in the air
(G major) And that (D major) was all we had (A major) and so, (F major) um
And I think (D major) we (A major) did (F major) it for couple
(D major) of months and it probably just
Stayed that way
And then we little by little
changed (G major) into more of a song (D major)
Verse 6
But yeah againit shows (A major) you the,
(C major) sometimes (G major) that's a (D major) sort of freedom of working with
(G major) Someone like Dave Fridmann is (D major) you don't-
I have to be so (A major) pre (D major) pared
Sometimes not (A major) be ing prepared lets you
breathe (G major) and discover some ideas
Along the way and I think (D major) it's one of the craziest,
most (A major) un expected, (D major) um, strangest (A major) tracks
I think (G major) we ever recorded
Verse 7
Yeah, I think this song, (C major) (G major) this to (D major) (G major) me is when it really
(D major) started to seem like we were actu (A major) ally
Working on the record, I (G major) mean 'cause we recorded Mr. Ambulance
(D major) Driver (A major) but that (D major) was (F sharp minor) done (D major) (C major) in June of (G major) 2004
(Right, yeah) and (C major) we (G major) got bogged down with all these side projects we had to do,
(D major) we did the (G major) bo hemian rapsody cover
We (D major) did a song with (A major) Sparklehorse for the David Johnston (D major) tribute,
we did the Thiev (G major) ery Corporation track
(C major) And we actually did (G major) this it felt like ok,
now we're working on this new record
And I think it really energizes to
move forward from there
Verse 8
Yeah, yeah, suddenly we discovered something (A major)
new (G major) radical and fun and (D major) different
And I don't mean bogged (D major) down like (G major) "ugh we have
to work on some other things", it's just you (D major)
No I did (A major)
Verse 9
(D major) You move away (A major) from finding a new direction,
(G major) be cause
You are just sorta working on other things,
(D major) so
Yeah yeah (A major) here we go (D major) (A major)
