The poor shoe (G major) maker and his wife
didn't have (F major) near enough to

(F major) See, the shoemaker and his wife togeth (G major) er only
just had (A minor) enough pieces of (G major) leather to make
one pair of (F major) shiny shoes.
He (E minor) cried, oh dear,

He took the leather and then he cut it, sew, sew,
sewing each little bit, (A minor) cob -cobbling the
(D minor) leather into (G major) shoes,
but (G minor) the poor shoemaker (B flat minor) was feeling (F major) blue.
I just (C major) can't carry on, he said, (A minor)
and drooped his (F major) tired and heavy (E major) head, (F major) leaving his half -made
shoes (G major) in the shed.
He went off to sleep in his big
(A minor) old bed. (F major)
(A minor) The next morning (F major) the shoemaker went down,
but soon he lost his worried frown.

He (C major) ran to tell his wife the news.
(F major) You won't believe it,
Maria, (G major) he (A minor) cried.
He was laughing (G major) and his
eyes were wide.
My shoes (C major) were finished in the (F major) night.

(G major) His wife jumped up and (C major) out of her bed.
But who finished them?

They looked at the
shoes together.
How beautiful looked (C major) the shiny leather.

for seven shiny coins of gold.
The (C major) shoemaker and his wife jumped for (F major) joy,

The elves' hats were
fluffy and red.
(G major) Christmas (C major) elves! his wife whispered back.
The (F major) elves worked with a creak (G major) an d a clack, (D minor)
sew (F major) -sewing shoes (C major) together, cob -cobbling some
(F major) new leather.
(G major) Soon the elves had made a shiny
(C major) new pair.
They ran out and left the
shoes right there.
Green (F major) leather shoes that sparkled so bright,
made by (C major) elf magic, (G major) during (A minor) the night.
The shoemaker (C major) 's wife said to him then,
(F major) Why, they've helped us
out again.
We should give them something back,
(F major) something those kind elves (G major) lack.
(F major) I agree,
Maya, (A minor) the shoemaker said,
(G major) but what to give those elves in the shed?
(C major) Then his wife said,
Hmm, aha, (C major) I know, they need (F major) some warm
winter clothes.
(C major) She made woolly jumpers for the elves, and
laid (F major) them out on the shelves.
From (C major) then on the elves always helped out,
and none of them ever went without.
