Verse 1
Am
Well, I live smack on the Santa Fe Trail.
It's about 50 miles east of Santa Fe.
And there's nothing out there,
you know,
about a house every half
mile or so.
It's about a 45 -minute
stretch between towns
and there's a lot of trash out there.
And I didn't know what that
was from
when I first moved out there
and come to find that that's just the old 100,
150 year old trash from the Santa Fe Trail.
They didn't have black plastic
garbage bags.
G
F
They didn't recycle their cans or their glass,
Am
they just tossed it off the side of
the wagon
F
when they were done snacking
Am
or when they were done eating
that day
or whatever.
The dominant feature in the valley
is called Starvation Peak.
It's right in the middle of the valley
and it got named by an incident
that I like to think is related
to all that trash there.
F
The Apaches ran a bunch of the settler
Am
s up on top of that peak
and left them up there until
they starved to death
several days later
while the Apaches partied down below.
I like to think of it as America's
F
Am
first anti -litter campaign.
Verse 2
So I've got a song called Starvation Peak.
Am
The Indians play hide and seek,
F
their bets are on my hide.
