Verse 1
(G major) When I was a lad (E major) and old (A major) Shep was a pup
over (D major) hills and meadows we'd play (G major)
Just a boy and his dog (E major) we were (A major) both full
of fun we (D major) grew up together that way (G major)
I re (C major) member the time at the
(G major) old swimming hole
When I would have drowned
bey (D major) ond doubt
But old (G major) Shep was right there (E major)
to the (A major) rescue he came
He jumped in (D major) and helped pull me out (G major)
Now the years they rolled by (E major)
and old (A major) Shep he grew old
His eye sight (D major) at last it grew dim (G major)
Then one day the doctor (E major) looked (A major) at him and
said I can't do (D major) no more for him (G major) Jim
With a (C major) hand that was trembling
I (G major) picked up my gun
And I aimed it at Shep's faithful (D major) head
But I just (G major) couldn't do (E major) it I (A major) wanted to run I
(D major) wished they would shoot me instead (G major)
Now (C major) old Shep is gone where
the good (G major) doggies go
And no more on this earth will (D major) he roam
But if (G major) dogs have a (E major) heaven there's (A major) one thing
I know old Shep (D major) has a wonderful (G major) home
Old Shep
