Verse 1
(A minor) In Evans was a prisoner
down in (G major) his prison cell
And (A minor) those that read about
his crime
condemned (G major) his soul to hell
Go down, (A minor) ye mur (G major) derer, go down (A minor)
For the killing of his own dear wife
and the (G major) murder of his child
The (A minor) jury found him guilty
and the (G major) hanging judge, he smiled
Go down, (A minor) you mur (G major) derer, go down (A minor)
Oh, they took Tim Evans from the dock
and they (G major) led him to his cell
They (A minor) closed the door behind his back,
saying, (G major) damn your soul to hell
Go down, (A minor) you (G major) murderer, go down (A minor)
Tim Evans who walked
around the yard
and the (G major) screws they walked behind
He (A minor) saw the sky above the wall
but knew (G major) no peace of mind
Go down, (A minor) you mur (G major) derer, go down (A minor)
And the governor came to his cell
with the (G major) chaplain by his side
Senor, (A minor) appeal has been turned down,
pre (G major) pare yourself to die
Go down, (A minor) you mur (G major) derer, go down! (A minor)
But they took Tim Evans
to the place
where the (G major) hangman did prepare
They tied (A minor) the rope around his neck
with the (G major) knot behind his ear
Go down, (A minor) you (G major) murderer, go down! (A minor)
A thousand lags were screaming
and banging (G major) on their doors
Tim (A minor) Evans didn't hear them,
he was (G major) dead forevermore
Go down, (A minor) you mur (G major) derers, go down (A minor)
They sent Tim Evans to the drop
for a (G major) crime he did not do
Dr (A minor) Christie was the murderer,
the (G major) judge and the jury too
Go down, (A minor) you mur (G major) derers, go down
(A minor) Go down, you mur (G major) derers, go down (A minor)
Go down, you mur (G major) derers, go down (A minor)
Go down, you (G major) murderers,
go down (A minor) (G major)
(A minor) (G major)
(A minor) (G major) (A minor)
(G major)
(A minor) (G major)
(A minor) (G major)
(A minor) Thank very (G major) (A minor) much.
