There's a story I must tell,
of the Never -Never Trail.
Henry Peckham was his name,
They called him the Fizzer,
Who died to save the mail.
I recall that tragic day,
When the Fizzer rode away,
that a woman's life might go
If that gallant little mailman
failed to get that message through.
till it goes down the trail.
may all Australians know,
How the brave Henry Peckham
gave his life to save the mail.
How the river was in flood,
how it chewed the mailman's blood,
When he faced that mighty torrent
But his gallant heart so true,
Meant to get that message through,
And he plunged his faithful bodee,
But the river, it was strong,
And it swept the mailman on,
After all he'd suffered, must he fail,
As he fought the surging tide
To his native boy he cried,
Save the mail, save the mail,
Save the mail, save the mail
That ringing cry still echoes
Though it's many, many years ago,
May all Australians know,
How the brave Henry Peckham
Gave his life to save the male.
