Verse 1
(D major) I'm itchin' my baby
and I don't know where to (A major) scratch
I'm a -keepin' both hands busy,
I'm a one -man wrestlin' (D major) match
Oh, how I miss that first sweet kiss
and the poison ivy (G major) patch
I'm itchin' for my baby
(D major) and I don't (A major) know where to (D major) scratch
I'll not forget the time we met,
was love right from the (A major) start
I took her strollin' through the woods
and there she won my (D major) heart
I carved her names upon a tree,
a tall and friendly (G major) pine
But little did I (D major) dream it held a (A major) poison ivy thine
(D major) I'm itchin' for my baby
and I don't know where to (A major) scratch
I'm a -keepin' both hands busy,
no shut -eye can I catch
(D major) Oh, how I miss that first sweet kiss
in the poison ivy (G major) patch
I'm itchin' for my baby
(D major) and I don't (A major) know where to (D major) scratch (G major) (D major) (A major)
(D major) My baby's home and all alone,
I call her on the (A major) phone
But her poor face is swollen,
and I heard her softly moan
(D major) I told her that I loved her still,
and hoped she'd love me (G major) too
I mustered up a (D major) pucker,
and I heard (A major) her answer, (D major) ooh
I'm itchin' for my baby,
and I don't know where to (A major) scratch
I'm a -keepin' both hands busy,
I'm a one -man -wrestlin' (D major) match
Oh, how I miss that first sweet kiss
in the poison ivy patch (G major)
I'm itchin' for my (D major) baby,
and I (A major) don't know her to (D major) scratch (G major) (D major) (A major)
(D major) From head to toe, my fingers go,
I just can't seem to (A major) stop
And when I think I've
reached the end
of spring's another crop
(D major) But I get lots of sympathy,
it helps to see me (G major) through
My baby, oh, it's (D major) nice to know
she's (A major) itchin' for me too
(D major) I'm itchin' for my baby,
and I don't know her to (A major) scratch
I'm a -keepin' both hands busy,
I'm a one -man wrestlin' (D major) match
Oh, how I miss that first sweet kiss
and the poison ivy (G major) patch
I'm itchin' for my (D major) baby,
and I don't (A major) know her to
(D major) scratch (G major) (D major) (A major) (D major) you
