air -conditioned tomb,

windowless

Where many a (C major) well -fed,
well -paid pompous bor (F major) ing lecturer (C major)
Spoke of many in aberra (D minor) tion and bizarre
(G major) On certain (C major) cure.
(F major) In (C major) such rooms I've learned hypnosis
in a stupor (D minor) ous deep trance,
Studied Freud and Jung and Erikson
(G major) an d cast an adult glance
(C major) At other famous therapists
and their (F major) pet theories,
(C major) Taught by their young (D minor) pet devotees,
(F major) With (G major) goatees and (C major) degrees.
Now, some of these were truly wise,
(D minor) Quite kind and human, too,
But some were wired as Airedales,
(G major) And they didn't have a clue.
(C major) Some played with a full deck,
But the rest (F major) did surely (C major) not.
I wonder, did they play at
all? (D minor)
(F major) They looked quite (C major) lost in thoughts.
Now, others let in countergroups
for (D minor) emotional release.
They seem to be resistant
just to sit (G major) and shoot
the breeze.
When on break, I'd (C major) try to talk with them
about (F major) things mundane but real.
(C major) Like politics (D minor) or sports, they'd ask, Jeff,
(F major) how (G major) does that make (C major) you feel?
I dreamed we spoke of breakthroughs,
(D minor) instant insights by the score.
We plumbed to depths transpersonal,
authentic (G major) to the core.
Chakras open, (C major) roundly centered,
(F major) quite correctly (C major) clinical.
The very model of a modern, (D minor) yeah,
(F major) mental (G major) health professional. (C major)
By the end of this dream afternoon,
our ex (D minor) hausted heads
were hung.
Into pitchers full of ice water,
we (G major) lulled our frozen tongues.
It seems (C major) that we had finally got our
(F major) therapeutic (C major) filled

(G major) of intrapsych (C major) ic swill.
