It's time to yank in the city
Looking for a place to dream
Caught in a rat pack nightmare
Where life really is as hard as it seems
You can't run on an empty tank
You can't think on an empty head
And I can't back up the checks I write
So the bill's just gonna pay
And I read your letters by candlelight
Though I just might get some sleep tonight
The party's just getting started
I can feel the energy rise
All common sense has departed
This fire in the midnight skies
I'm reaching out for a hand to hold
Hoping I might find an answer
As I stare into their dead, eyes
If I can't see to the other side
I'll make an uneducated guess
If I never have to cross a great divide
And spend the second half of my life
That I never had a chance to say
If we climb out of the cracks
Looking for a place to dream
Caught in a rat pack nightmare
But life really is as hard as it seems
I can't knock up the checks I write
So the bills just go unpaid
Though I just might get some sleep tonight
