Verse 1
(G major) Takin' me to California,
rather than (C major) Tennessee
(G major) Got in trouble down in Dixie,
and it's Alcatraz for me
Woman in Atlanta, Georgia,
(C major) caused me plenty misery (G major)
Thought she was a true companion,
till she turned her back on me. (D major) (G major) (D major) (G major)
Gee, but I'm blue and lonely
No (C major) one seems to understand
(G major) Everybody thinks I'm guilty,
they think I've killed a man
Woman in Atlanta, Georgia,
listen (C major) to this lonesome song
(G major) If the people knew you shot him,
you'd be where you belong (D major) (G major) (D major) (G major)
I was peepin' through the window
When he (C major) came to my back door (G major)
She thought I was out of city
When she brought him through my door
He was not the kind she thought him
He (C major) refused to turn me down
(G major) When he told her about our friendship,
she turned and shot him
down (D major) (G major)
(D major) (G major)
Evidence was circumstantial,
didn't (C major) want the world to know
(G major) That the mother of my children
would ever fall so low
I took all the blame for murder,
murder (C major) in the first degree
(G major) For my children I plead guilty,
and it's alcatraz for me
