1-9! Is anyone there?

ome on back,

truckers and talk to Teddy Bear!"

And a little boy's voice

Verse 3
came back on the air
C
 (C major) "'Preciate the break,
Who we got on that end?"
I told him my handle, and,
then he began:
F
"Now, I'm (F major) not supposed to bother
you fellows out there
Mom says you're busy an
C
(C major) d for me to stay off the air

Verse 4
C
 (C major) But you see,
G
I get lonely and it (G major) helps to talk
C
'Cause that's about all I can do, (C major)
I'm crippled, and, I can't walk!"
F
I came (F major) back and told him
to fire up that mike
Bb
C
And I'd (B flat major) talk to him, as long (C major) as he liked
G
C
F
"This (G major) was my dad's (C major) radi (F major) o", the little boy

Verse 5
C
 (C major)
said
"But I guess it's mine and mom's now,
G
C
'cause my (G major) daddy's dead!" (C major)
F
(F major) "Dad had a wreck about
He was trying to get home
C
(C major) in a blindin' snow

Verse 6
G
Mom has to work now, to make (G major) ends meet
And I'm not much help,
C
(C major) with my two crippled feet!"
"She says not to worry that
F
we'll (F major) make it alright
But, I hear her crying,
C
sometimes late at night (C major)

Verse 7
G
You know there's just one (G major) thing I want
C
more than any (C major) thing else to see
F
Aw, I know you (F major) guys are too
C
(C major) busy to bother with me!"
"But, you see, my dad used to take
F
me (F major) for rides when he was home
C
But, I guess that's all over (C major) now,
since my daddy's gone

Verse 8
C
G
Not one (C major) breaker (G major) came on the old CB
C
As that little crippled boy (C major) talked with me
F
I tried hard (F major) to swallow a lump
that just wouldn't stay down
C
As I (C major) thought about my boy
G
back in Greenville (G major) Town

Verse 9
C
G
(C major) "Dad was going to take mo (G major) m and me
F
C
(F major) with him later (C major) on this year, Why,
F
l remember 'I'm saying: 'Someday this old truck will be yours, (F major)
C
F
Teddy (C major) (F major) Bear!'
But, I know I'll never get to ride
C
an (C major) 18-wheeler again
F
But, this old base will keep (F major) me in touch
G
(G major) with all my trucker friends!"
C
"Teddy Bear's gonna (C major) back on out

Verse 10
now and leave you alone
'Cause it's about time
F
for mom to come home (F major)
C
F
But, you (C major) give me a shout (F major) when
you're passin' through
C
And I'll sure be happy (C major) to come
G
back to you!" (G major)

Verse 11
C
Well, I came back (C major) and I said: uh!
"Before you go 10-10
What's your home 20, little
CB friend?"
Well, he gave me his address and
F
I did (F major) n't once hesitate
'Cause this hot load of freight
C
was just gonna have to wait (C major)

Verse 12
C
I turned that truck around (C major)
on a dime
G
And headed (G major) straight for Jackson Street,
229
C
And as I rounded the corner, (C major) oh,
I got one heck of a shock
F
late (F major) wheelers were lined up
for three city blocks!

Verse 13
C
Why, I guess every (C major) driver for miles around
G
had caught Teddy Bear's (G major) call
C
And that little (C major) crippled
boy was having a ball
For as fast as one driver
would carry him in
Another would carry him to his
F
C
F
truck and (F major) take off (C major) again (F major)

Verse 14
F
Well, you better believe I (F major) took my turn
C
at riding Teddy Bear (C major)
And then I carried him back in and
G
put him down in his chair (G major)
And buddy if I never live
C
to see (C major) happiness again
I want you to know I saw it that day,
F
in the face of that (F major) little man

Verse 15
F
We took up (F major) a collection for him before
C
his mama got home (C major)
F
G
And each driver (F major) said (G major) goodbye
C
and then they all were gone (C major)
He shook my hand with a mile-long grin
grin
And said: "So long,

Verse 16
trucker I'll catch ya again!"
F
(F major) Well, I hit the Interstate with
tears in my eyes
C
I turned (C major) on the radio and I got
another surprise
"Breaker 1-9!" Came
G
a voice (G major) on the air
C
"Just one word of thanks (C major) from
Mama Teddy Bear!"

Verse 17
C
"We wish (C major) each and every one,
F
a (F major) special prayer for you
'Cause, You just made my little
F
C
boy's (F major) dream come (C major) true
F
C
I'll sign (F major) off now, before, I start (C major) to cry
F
C
May (F major) God (C major) ride with you,
10-4, and goodbye."
