Verse 1
This is (G major) a story about a little boy,
and he was on the edge of the woods one day,
and he see the (D major) squirrel running
out in the woods.
(G major) And the squirrel was running (F major) among the leaves,
(F sharp minor) you the leaves (G major) in the woods?
And he (F major) said that the leaves were (G major) go ing,
yada -dee -dum,
yada -dee -dum,
as his (F sharp minor) feet run (F major) through the leaves.
That's where yada -da -dee
-dum (G major) come from.
He said that's what the leaves
were saying.
But he wanted the (G major) squirrel so bad,
(F major) and so (G major) he couldn't get the
(F major) squirrel.
The just running, and jumping, and hopping.
So (G major) he see the old mule
over there in the field.
The people had quit waking
the old mule that's over
there, the old pet mule.
He knew that mule was kind,
and he (F sharp minor) got the old mule over (G major) there,
wanted the mule to help him catch
the squirrel.
But you (C major) know a mule don't know how (F major) to hunt,
you see.
And so (G major) he tried to get the saddle on
the mule.
He figured if he could (G major) do that,
that mule would run that squirrel down.
That was in his mind.
He really (D major) wanted the squirrel,
(F major) and so he couldn't (G major) get the saddle on the (D major) mule,
because he was too (F major) little,
The saddle was (G major) too heavy.
And as he put the saddle up on the mule,
(E minor) he the mule to walk (E flat major) off.
wasn't (C major) kicking, just walking
(A minor) off.
So finally, the (G major) got tired.
The mule run.
When the mule run,
that scared the squirrel.
The squirrel run.
(D major) So the little boy didn't get the squirrel
and didn't get the mule to help him.
(G major) So that's (C major) what the whole (F major) thing.
(G major) We just made a song
of the story of the little boy.
