Old Chisholm Trail chords by

Verse 1
D

G
C

Back in
D

the 1800s,

there were an awful lot

of longhorn cows in Texas

and an awful lot of people back east
C

with a taste for beef.

The trouble was that the

cows and the people
D

were nearly 2 ,000 miles apart,
C
D

and the closest railroads
C

were way up in Kansas,
D

nearly 1 ,000 miles north of south Texas,
G

so there was no way to get the
D

cattle to market.

Well, a rancher named Chisholm
G
D

had himself a dandy idea.

If they couldn't bring the railroad to the cattle,

G

why not bring the cattle to the railroad?
D

So he put a herd together,
G

hired a crew of young cowboys,
D

and drove them north to the rail
G
D

head in Abilene, Kansas.
G
D

Now, a lot of cowboys

drove a lot of herds from Texas to Kansas

on that very same route,

but it was always known as
E
D
G
C

the Old Chisholm Trail.

Oh, come along, boys, and listen to my tale

Tell you about my troubles

Sometimes things got real tough

out on the old Chism Trail

The cowboys faced dust,

mud, rustlers,

stampedes

and bad weather

They had to swim the cattle across rivers

and drive them through the desert

sometimes going for days and days

without seeing a single

drop of water.

Sometimes they'd get way

behind schedule

and have to drive them hungry
A

cattle all night long.
D

There's mud in the gully

and dust in the draw,

the boss man's meaner
A
D
A

than my mother -in -law.
D

Got a hole in my hat where the rain runs in,

a hole in my boot where it
A
D
A

runs out again.

D

Well, the water's gettin' scarce

and they're runnin' out of life

It looks like we're gonna have

to drive them all night
A
D

Come a -tie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie

D

Come a -tie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie

Spent two days lookin'

for a mule -headed cat

I ain't been to sleep in a

week and a half

Come a -tie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie -ie

I woke up one morning

on the old Chisholm trail

With a rope in my hand

and a cow by the tail

Come a tie a yippie yippie yay,

Sometimes that old trail boss
E

could get downright testy

And you sure got tired of eatin'

the same thing day in and day out

It was enough to make a feller

think about givin' up cowboyin'

Well, it's bacon and beans

most every day

I'd soon be eatin' that prairie hay

This cowboy life's gettin' mighty old

  • Best Tuning App Ever

    MaddProfessor

I've downloaded many tuning apps before and this one is by far the best. Easy to use, super user-friendly, and they have a bunch of fun different chords and songs to help you learn new music. I highly recommend.

  • Well-Designed App

    Rose the Black Cat

I mostly use this for tuning my guitar, which this app makes ridiculously easy. It also has a large selection of songs to play along to and it helps show you which chords to play as well how to make the shapes with your fingers.

  • Got me back into playing

    Tuliketsune

I got this app to tune an old guitar, and noticed it has a feature that autoscrolls as I play chords to famous songs. For some reason, this was a lot more motivating for me than any other way of practicing guitar. Now I'm actually practicing and remembering the names of chords 🙂

  • Secret weapon

    Brad

Not only is it a tuner (best app tuner I've used personally) but it also has a metronome, games, chords, and a plethora of instruments to choose from and it's SUPER easy to navigate. I love it! Thanks for making an awesome app. From one musician to another, THANKS!!!

  • Very reliable tuner

    theNewPaul

This is a great app! Very easy to use and very reliable, if you are just starting out, you can take a big worry off your mind, by getting in tune quickly and easily with this app. Highly recommended!

  • This is the best guitar tuner ever.

    Caleb Schafli

It tunes your guitar accurately so you can get the best sound. I like all the other little games as well because they teach you how to play different chords and you can learn to identify the chords by listening to them and it is all offline.

  • Great to tune and play

    Lynae T

I love how easy it is to tune and find and play my favorite songs.
