since I left my mail home
Searching for those green hills
somewhere across the foam
But I was young and foolish
and I longed for city lights
Away from my clear island
and its lovely scenic sights
Somewhere along life's highway,
Like waves out on the ocean,
And tonight I'm reminiscing
about my old home in Mayo
I can see the lights of Westport
A heart so full of memories,
I recall a girl I knew long, long ago
And late at night when all is still
And the moon peeps over the hill
I dream about my old home in
Oh, I would love to walk once more
to watch the golden sunset
i stroll along the mountain path
a few miles out from louisburg
on the road to kill a dune someday
to my old home in the west
Where Atlantic waters cradle,
the place that I love best
And the girl from lovely Westport
But the yearning deep inside me
doesn't make the hurting less
A heart so full of memories
I recall a girl I knew long, ago
And late at night when all is still
and the moon peeps over the hill,
I dream about my old home in Mayo.
