Intro 1
(A minor) (C major) (A minor)
Verse 1
When (C major) I was but a young man,
I was wild (A minor) and full of fire
A youth (C major) within my teens,
but full of chal (A minor) lenge and desire
I (C major) ran away from home and left
my mother (A minor) and my dad
I know (F major) it grieved them so (G major) to
think their (A minor) only boy went bad
(C major) I fell in with an outlaw band,
their names (A minor) were known quite well
(C major) How many times we robbed and plundered,
I (A minor) could never tell
(C major) This kind of sinful living,
leads (A minor) only to a fall
I learned (F major) that much and more (G major) the
night I heard (A minor) my Master's call

Verse 2
(A minor)
One night (F major) we rustled cattle, (C major)
a thousand (F major) head or so (C major)
And started (F major) then out (C major) on the trail
that leads (A minor) to Mexico
When a norther (F major) started blow (G major) ing
and light (C major) ning flashed about (G major)
I thought (C major) someone was calling (F major) me,
I thought (G major) I heard a shout (C major)
Then at that moment lightning struck
not twenty (E minor) yards from me
And left (F major) there was a giant cross
where once (C major) there was a tree
This time (A minor) I knew I heard a voice,
a voice (D major) so sweet (D minor) and strange
A voice (C major) that came from everywhere,
a voice (A minor) that called my name
Verse 3
(A minor)
So (C major) frightened I was thinking of
the sinful (A minor) deeds I'd done
I failed (C major) to see a thousand head
of cattle (A minor) start to run
The cattle (C major) they stampeded,
were (A minor) running all around
My pony (F major) ran but stumbled (G major) and
it threw (A minor) me to the ground
I felt (F major) the end was (C major) near,
that death (F major) would be the price (C major)
When a mighty (F major) bolt of light (C major) ning showed
the face (A minor) of Jesus Christ
And I cried (F major) oh Lord forgive (G major) me,
don't (C major) let it happen now (G major)
I want (C major) to live for you (F major) alone,
Oh God (G major) these words I vow (C major)
My wicked past unfolded and I
thought (E minor) of wasted years
When a might (F major) bolt of lightning killed
a (C major) hundred head of steers
And the (A minor) others rushed on by me
and (D major) I was (D minor) left to live
The Master (C major) had a reason,
life is (A minor) his to take or give
Verse 4
(A minor)
(C major) A miracle performed that night,
I (A minor) wasn't meant to die
(C major) The dead ones formed a barricade
nearly six (A minor) or seven high
And (C major) right behind it there was I,
afraid (A minor) but safe and sound
I cried (F major) in vain for mer (G major) cy kneeling
there (A minor) upon the ground (C major)
A pardon I was granted,
my sin (A minor) ful soul set free
No (C major) more to fear the angry waves
upon (A minor) life's stormy seas
(C major) Forgiven by the love of God,
a love (A minor) that will remain
I (F major) learned that much and (G major) more the night
the Saviour (A minor) called my name
