Songs are funny things, you know.
It always amazes me when I write a song
and actually finish it and look at it and go,
I mean, still, it's magical to me.
An d I went through a period in my
where it was pretty dark.
I'd had to move back in with my mom,
which was in and of itself quite
for things like cigarettes
because I was making this record.
And I kept telling myself, someday, someday,
I'll write a song that every
I'll write just the er song.
And then I'll show it to my mom
And sure enough, one Sunday
I was sitting at her kitchen table
reading a copy she'd bought me
And there was an article in there
and I looked at the article,
and the girl said she'd learned the truth at 18,
I should really do, when I was 17.
And you know, my mom came
because that's how long it took
and I played her the song
and I said but I'm never gonna sing it again
after this because it's just too personal
and when I looked up when I fin
and I said what's the matter
and she said but that's my song
and I thought wow did my job
