Verse 1
G
(G major) Driving six hours on a Saturday
C
To play for fifty in a bar across the state (C major)
D
No one (D major) in the room will know ya
But for two hours you sing
G
Louder than the fork (G major) s
hitting plates
Keep the expectations
humble
Sing your favorite
line and someone cracks a
C
smile (C major) and you’re embarrassingly
proud
D
Don’t they know (D major) that you’re the
frontman
Of the second biggest band in
G
your (G major) small town?
On the weekdays you
teach high school
Students troll you with your videos online
C
D
(C major) And you play (D major) at all the
wineries
Which really means you drink far
G
too much wine (G major)
But goddamn do you
feel special
When a stranger wants to know when
C
Your next (C major) album’s coming out
D
Just the (D major) perks of being frontman
Of the second biggest band
G
in your small (G major) town
C
As you thank (C major) people for coming
G
Someone (G major) grabs you by the hand
D
Says (D major) you need to find a publisher
Em
An agent, and a brand (E minor)
C
(C major) And you smile and nod politely
G
Pack up (G major) t- shirts and cds
D
Knowing (D major) full well that the only way
To make it is to leave
A
(A major) It’sbeen one hell of
a summer
Made good money and the guys
D
all got (D major) along
E
(E major) Opened up for a famous classic
rock band
Minus the singer who wrote all of
A
 (A major) their songs
Now people are asking
was that the big break that
Carries your songs
D
(D major) all the world around
E
And your (E major) answer’s optimistic
But you’re just the
thirtysomething frontman
Of the second biggest band
A
in your small (A major) town
D
You thank (D major) god for local radio
A
And community that (A major) cares
E
When a (E major) tourist from the city says
“You’re putting yourself
F#m
D
out (F sharp minor) (D major) there”
Sometimes your dreams
wander
A
When you’re up (A major) drinking alone
E
But really all (E major) you’ve ever wanted
was
This baby, wife, and home
C#m
A
(C sharp minor) So (A major) you burden your odometer
Load & unload gear more times
D
than you can (D major) count
E
And you love (E major) be ing the
frontman
Of the second biggest band
A
in your small (A major) town
E
We post all our (E major) shows on Facebook
We’re the second biggest
band in your small town
A
E
(A major) Add my (E major) songs to all your
playlists
I’m the thirty- something dad- bod- rockin'
acoustic guitar playing eponymous frontman
D
E
A
of the (D major) second biggest (E major) band in your small (A major) town
