Verse 1
G
Back (G major) to the years,
I go wandering once again.
C
Back to the seasons of my (C major) youth.
G
I recall (G major) a box of rags someone gave us.
And how my mama put
C
those rags to (C major) use
G
There were (G major) rags of many colors
And every piece was small
And I didn't have a coat
D
And it was (D major) way down in the fall
G
Mama sewed (G major) the rags together
C
Sewing (C major) every piece with love
G
She made my (G major) coat of many colors
D
G
That (D major) I was so proud (G major) of
As she sewed, she told a story
from the Bible she had read
D
About a coat of many colors Joseph wore (D major)
And then she said,
G
perhaps (G major) this coat will bring you
C
Good luck (C major) and happiness
G
And I just (G major) couldn't wait to wear it
D
G
My mama blessed (D major) it with a (G major) kiss
C
My (C major) coat of many colors
G
that my mama (G major) made for me
C
Made (C major) only from rags,
G
D
but I (G major) wore it so proudly (D major)
G
And although (G major) he had no money,
C
I was (C major) rich as I could be
G
In my (G major) coat of many colors,
D
G
my mama made (D major) for me (G major)

laughing and mak (D major) ing fun of me

My coat (A major) of many colors

my (E major) mama made for (A major) me
I just couldn't understand

E
my mama sewed (E major) in every stitch
A
And I told (A major) him all the stories
D
mama told (D major) me while she sewed

Was worth (E major) more than all their (A major) gold
D
But they didn't (D major) understand it
A
Though I tried (A major) to make them see
D
That one (D major) is only poor
A
E
Only if (A major) they choose to (E major) be
A
Now I know (A major) we had no money
D
But I was (D major) rich as I could be
A
In my (A major) coat of many colors

My (E major) mama made for me, (D major)
