Verse 1
(G major) Good morning,
ladies and gentlemen,
coming live and direct
from (G minor) the Breathing Room (G major) Studios.
This is DJ Malik.
Yes, the hottest DJ out in the street,
dropping all the funky hits.
Coming up, we got a special treat
(C major) for all my ladies (F sharp minor) out there.
You (G major) know you love this next artist, ladies.
His name is Maliko.
He's got an album out called
Breathing Room.
He's hitting you with an
old -school track.
Check it out.
In 1978, I was born.
The first time I heard music, it was on.
I fell in love from that day on
And look at me now,
I'm still writing songs
I grew up on Queen, The Gang,
and Isley Brothers
Tower of Power, James Brown,
and Stevie Wonder
So it's no wonder I'm a
funky motherfucker
One hand slam dunker,
man, forget about my color
Who would've thunk it,
rockin' out like a punker
Used to rock a backpack,
now it's shaved like a stunner
How you like me now, like Kumo D
Tougher than leather, like Run -D .M .C.
The first tape I ever got
was Public Enemy Pop,
bought it for me,
and it brings back good memories
Back then, I used to bump
Eric B. and Rockham
At the time, I didn't think
that anyone could stop them
And I was right, yo,
who don't agree with that?
I'm a old school cat,
you know I had to bring it back
My number one rap
influenced the Fresh Prince
Critics, haters, go and get pissed
He's a DJ, I'm the rapper,
one of the best albums ever
We can talk about it anytime you want,
my pleasure
That's where I come from,
hate it or love it
Name any classic album,
either bought it or dug it
Yep, those were the days
MC Hammer, Too Short, and NWA
Some of my favorite rap
groups of all time
Digital Underground and The Far Side
I can't forget about De La Soul
Tribe Called Quest
and the leaders of the New School
In high school I was all hieroglyphics
Free South Fellowship and
Blackalicious
Everybody looked at us like we were a gang
But we were just some kids
that wish we were the Wu
-Tang Clan
I remember the first time I heard
Beneath the Surface
I realized that L .A. styles were ridiculous
O .M .D. and the Shade Shifters crew
My favorite was C .V .E.
and Ab Rude
Timbaland, now that's a bad dude
To (G major) get a beat from him
I'd go a week without food
No doubt
If I could work with anyone
I'd have to say
I'd want to do a song with Snoop
Dogg and Dr. Dre
Nowadays I'm bumping out
Cass and Kanye
Kissing out to Mr. F .A .B. and Mac Dre
Keep the sneak at E -40 all day
Goin' dumb and gettin' hyphy,
reppin' the bay
So as you can see, my musical taste
Any given day could go
a million different ways
But one thing that will never change
Malico, that's my name,
Block Rock is here to stay
Oh yeah!
Oh yeah! (E minor) (G major)
One time for your mind
Everybody one time for
your mind
(C major) (G major)
We're takin' it back baby,
that's how we're doin' it
Don't forget about your roots MC's
You know what sayin',
this is (C major) where it's comin' (G major) from baby,
and that's where it's goin'
Your boy Maliko's rippin' (B flat major) it
on this breath (G major) ing room track
I got Mr. E on the boards,
I got Big Kiko on the beat
What up, this is 2007, 8, 9,
and shit, baby.
(G major) That's how we're doing it all day,
every day.
Peace (F major) out, baby, see y 'all.
(G major) Damn. Ooh.
Get out LETS GO LETS GO
Hey Christmas Hooh
