Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
On behalf of everyone in the show,
I'd like to thank you very, very
much
for coming to see us
tonight at the Palladium.
We appreciate it. You know,
when I was invited to play London
a few months ago,
I started thinking about the songs
that I would sing for you.
I wanted to get a pretty widely diversified
groups and ballads
and songs that I'd recorded
and old ones and new ones.
The only time I was stuck
was for a piece of material,
a kind of a story song.
Then a friend of mine
gave me a book of Cole Porter lyrics
an d I was reading it one night
and I ran across this song
that I knew very well at
least the first chorus of it.
I didn't know that he had written three
oth er choruses.
It was done in 1934
for Ethel Merman and Bob Hope,
a show called Red Hot and Blue
and it's so funny how those lyrics
written that long ago
kind of applied to my life
for the last couple or three years.
I'll sing and you'll see.
I feel a sudden urge to sing
The kind of ditty that invokes the spring
So control your desire to curse
While I crucify the verse
This verse I've started seems to me
The tin pan tithesis of melody
So to spare you all the pain
I'll skip the darn thing an
d sing the refrain.
The night is young, the skies are clear,
and if you wanna go walking, dear, it's delightful,
it's delicious, it's de lovely.
I understand the reason why
Your sentimental cause, so am I
It's de lightful, it's delicious,
it's de lovely
You can tell at a glance
What a grand night this is
For romance you can hear
Dear Mother Nature murmur and low
Let yourself go,
please be sweet, my chickadee
And when I kiss you, just say to me
It's delightful, it's delicious
It's delectable, it's delirious
It's dilemma, it's delimit
It's deluxe, it's de lovely
Time marches on,
and soon it's plain
You've won my heart and I've
lost my brain
It's delightful, it's delicious,
it's de -lovely
Life seems
so sweet that we decide
It's in the bag to get unified
It's delightful, it's delicious,
it's de -lovely
See that crowd at the church
See that proud parson
Whopped on his perch, get the sweet
Beat of the or gan,
peelin' our dune
Here goes the groom,
how they cheer and how they smile
As we go galloping down the aisle
It's divine, dear, it's divine, dear
It's de wunderbar, it's de victory
It's de winner, it's de volupte
It's de weichs, it's de lovely
The knot is tied,
and so we take a few hours off
to eat wedding cake
It's delightful, it's delicious,
it's de -lovely
It feels just fine to be a bride
And how's the groom?
Why, he's slightly fried
It's DeLovely to the
pop of champagne
Off we hop in our plush little plane
Till a bright light through the darkness
Cozily calls Niagara Falls
Well, my love, our day's com plete,
and what a beautiful, bright, and sweet.
It's the reaming, it's the rousing,
it's the revering, it's the rhapsody, it's the regal,
it's the royal, it's the ritz, it's the lovely.
We settle down as man and wife
to solve the riddle called
married life.
Delightful, delicious,
it's de -lovely.
We're on the crest,
we have no cares.
We're just a couple of hon ey bears.
De lightful, it's delicious,
it's de lovely
All's as right as can be
Till one night at my window
I see an absurd
Bird with a bundle hung on his nose
Get baby clothes.
Eyes of yours are filled with joy.
When nurse appears and cries,
it's a boy.
He's appealing, he's ap
